TRANSCRIPT 3: The Call
[Took place on 3/2/2026]
[Jayce's phone lights up with an unknown number, and he answers]
JAYCE: Hello. How did you get this number?
VIKTOR: You slipped it to me, if I recall. I assumed you meant for me to give you a ring—unless I have… sorely misinterpreted things.
JAYCE: Oh—! No, no, this is right. Sorry, that's… standard response.
[He gets up from his seat and goes towards the door, making a call motion]
JAYCE: I know, it sounds super harsh. I'm sorry about that. You're at the right place. I... I'm glad you actually called.
[He goes down the hall, making glances around, then dips into the evidence closet]
VIKTOR: Glad, eh? And why would an NYV agent be glad for a recently arrested vampire fledgling to be calling his cellphone during work hours, then?
JAYCE: Same reason I gave you my number. I like you.
VIKTOR: Really? After one little encounter in an interrogation room? Unless… we have met before. I… must admit, I actually called because I thought you looked a little… familiar.
JAYCE: I was just thinking that, too, actually... Once before, before you came to New York under these circumstances. I didn't want to freak you out with it. I'm glad you brought it up first.
VIKTOR: Hm… do you recall the details? I… must admit, my memories have been rather fuzzy since I was turned.
JAYCE: Summer of '25.
JAYCE: You... had these—
[Jayce clears his throat]
JAYCE: Maybe you'd recognize me in some swim trunks and not a suit. You were reading at the beach. I liked the book, too. We went back to my room to talk about it.
VIKTOR: Oh? Hm… I suppose I will not be enjoying much beach time anytime soon. Did we… talk about the book, then…?
JAYCE: You really don't remember? You're breaking my heart here. Though you weren't looking at my face much.
JAYCE: We talked. Amongst other things...
VIKTOR: As I said, things are rather fuzzy, so I hope you will forgive my queries. What other things did we do, then, agent…? Ah, I just realized… I do not even know your name.
JAYCE: It's Jayce. You were reading Brandon Sanderson, the first big one, The Way of Kings.
JAYCE: We...
JAYCE: I'll be blunt. We had sex.
VIKTOR: My, how messy of me, having sex with a man I just met. Was I… enjoying myself, then, Jayce?
JAYCE: Yeah... yeah, I would say you were. Don't expect a guy to give himself a bad score, but I've never had any complaints.
JAYCE: You gave me your number, then you disappeared. I guess I know why now.
VIKTOR: Well, I suppose if I gave you my number… I… must admit, the memory loss is rather bothersome. I wonder… if there are things that can be done to jog it.
JAYCE: I don't have that book on me; it's too big to travel with in my line of work.
VIKTOR: Hm, a shame… perhaps there are some other details about that day that can be recreated. Perhaps not the beach, though.
JAYCE: Y-yeah?
JAYCE: I think I could jog your memory.
JAYCE: I heard the hips store a lot of memory.
VIKTOR: The hips? Interesting… and what would you do to my hips to release those stored memories?
JAYCE: You liked it when I put my hands on the back of your thighs and pushed your knees up to your head. You'd said you didn't think you were that flexible...
JAYCE: I hope I didn't hurt you.
VIKTOR: Oh! I-I, hm… I wonder if… I am still that flexible. I have… not had the opportunity to test.
VIKTOR: At least… not that I recall.
JAYCE: Am I being too forward?
JAYCE: If I am, tell me. I want to know. But if I'm not, I could give you the chance to figure it out.
VIKTOR: Hm, perhaps in another life, but I… things have been quite strange for me, as you can imagine. And I… will admit that I have not been able to stop thinking about you since the precinct. What did you… have in mind?
JAYCE: ...I get off work at [REDACTED]. The sun sets at [REDACTED].
JAYCE: I have a hotel I've been staying at... unless you want to meet somewhere else. If you're interested, that is.
VIKTOR: I… know of a place, more suited for… my kind. I can… text the address to you.
JAYCE: Have you had a live feeding yet?
JAYCE: Are you able to handle those well...?
VIKTOR: No, I… only pouches, so far. I am… being taught to control urges. I am told there are… places where there are willing participants. But I am not allowed until I have shown ability for restraint.
JAYCE: I'm really good at teaching restraint.
JAYCE: I'm actually somewhat an expert.
JAYCE: I know better than to let you drain me dry.
VIKTOR: You would… let me feed from you…?
JAYCE: I think I'm the best guy for the job.
JAYCE: I know vampires are deceptively strong, and how to keep you from hurting yourself if you're restrained for it...
JAYCE: Should that be something you want.
VIKTOR: Oh? You… certainly sound as though you know what you are doing. I… suppose I reached out to the right person. It is something of a relief, speaking with someone who sounds so confident. I feel as though I no longer truly understand anything anymore.
JAYCE: I'll take care of you.
JAYCE: You just need to sit back and relax, and I'll guide you through the whole thing.
VIKTOR: Perhaps it is foolish of me—from my perspective, we have only just met, but I… trust that you will, Jayce.
JAYCE: I know it's a crazy thing to offer... I was pretty sad when I never heard from you again. I thought we had a great thing going. I get why you disappeared now, hah.
JAYCE: I'm happy to help out in any way I can. It's hard to come by friendly faces sometimes. I'd like to be one of them for you.
VIKTOR: Hm, I think I would like that as well. I will… see you at [REDACTED].
